A fatal accident claimed the life of a Birmingham man early New Year’s Day on Interstate 65 just south of Clanton.

Edward Leon Tarver, 58, died in a single-vehicle crash about 5:34 a.m. near I-65 mile marker 204, according to Alabama State Troopers.

Tarver, reportedly the driver of a southbound 1988 Ford F150 pick-up truck, was partially ejected from the vehicle and was not wearing his seat belt, preliminary reports indicated.

“My reports indicate the vehicle left the roadway, hit a culvert headwall and overturned,” Trooper spokeswoman Doris Teague said.

The Montgomery Trooper post continues to investigate the crash.
