Clanton City Hall gets new speakers

Anyone in downtown Clanton during the Christmas season will hear a familiar jingle-jangle in the air.

The city has a new sound system with several permanent speakers affixed to the top of Clanton City Hall. Christmas music will be playing throughout the month, resuming a tradition that was started several years ago.

The new speakers were installed Wednesday in time for the annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony Thursday night.

“There was a little boy walking down with his mom, and he said he liked it,” City Hall secretary Susan Rickles said.

Before the current city hall was built, a set of speakers used to serve the same function atop the former building. Rickles said several residents had missed the music and asked if it could be started up again.

City Clerk Debbie Orange said the old speakers had too much static to be used again.

The new equipment cost about $3,380.

The Christmas music will be playing during normal business hours.
