Lori Martin Peoples spoke at a breast cancer awareness fundraiser sponsored by Durbin Farms Market, the American Cancer Society and 97.7 The Peach on Tuesday night.
Peoples was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 34, about 10 years younger than the age when her grandmother was diagnosed.
She said early detection is vital.
“My child will start getting checked at 24,” Peoples said, adding that her family supports Relay for Life and the Breast Cancer Foundation.
“The biggest thing I would say is trust in the Lord and don’t give up,” she told those in attendance.
Half of the proceeds from the event went to the American Cancer Society for breast cancer awareness and research.
