The Chilton County Commission and Probate Judge Bobby Martin worked out an agreement Tuesday concerning the payment of land recording fees.

Currently, the county is billed for recording land, such as county-owned right-of-ways.

Martin said he needs the fees paid before the end of the month.

He said any money taken in during the month, such as deeds or taxes, must also be paid out that same month to the state, cities or other entities.

The probate office essentially carries no balance from month-to-month, Martin said.

“We have to take money and put it in but have to hold it until we get a check from the county,” Martin said.

The judge and commissioners discussed during the commission meeting Tuesday having the county pay upfront for any recordings but agreed to just have one bill sent and paid before the probate office closes its month.
