Fair comes to town

With September comes two significant events — the arrival of fall, and the arrival of the Chilton County Fair.

The fair begins Monday, Sept. 28 and lasts through Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Chilton County Fairgrounds on Airport Road. Gates will open at 6 each night except Saturday, gates will open at 5 p.m.

Admission is $3 per person and free for children 3 and under.

“The Clanton Kiwanis Club encourages everyone to attend the fair,” said Kiwanis president Maurice Lyn. “The community support will enable the club to donate thousands of dollars back to children’s charities in the community. We greatly appreciate the community’s support in the past.”

Lyn added that proceeds from the fair have contributed more than $100,000 to children within Chilton County over the past five years.

The nightly schedule for fair events is as follows:

Monday night: Chilton County High School “Blast from the Past” performing at 7, farm fun for families from 6-8. The farm fun event will include antique tractor displays, mule team, wagons, work horses and little ones’ farm fun.

Tuesday night: Demolition Derby at 7, lamb show and goat show at 6

Wednesday night: Southern Pride performing at 7

Thursday night: Steer show at 6, Attitudes dance group performing at 6:30, and Loose Change quartet from 7-8

Friday night: bluegrass and gospel singing from 7-9

Saturday night: beef show at 3 p.m., gates open at 5, Fair Queen Pageant at 6.

Exhibits at this year’s fair will include women’s organizations, youth organizations, canning, handmade items, baking, flowers, art, children’s art, Just for Kids, ceramics, photography, field and farm products, farm fun for families, and livestock.
