The Thorsby Rebels (0-3) may have lost Friday night’s region game against the Pickens County Tornadoes (3-0), but they didn’t go down without a fight.
With just 3:35 left to play, Kalup Nunn put Thorsby on the board with a 14-yard touchdown run. Marcus Bray capped it off with a conversion, making the score 33-8 in Pickens County’s favor.
Dillin Simmons recovered the ensuing onsides kick for Thorsby, allowing Bray to score from 10 yards out. The conversion was no good, and the final score was 33-14.
“Our kids played hard the whole game,” Thorsby coach Billy Jackson said. “We’ve just got to work harder and cut out our mental mistakes.”
Jackson added he was pleased with the continuing support from the town, cheerleaders and band.
“I’m proud of our kids. They don’t quit,” he said.
Pickens County’s Deion Curry connected with Jamal Giles in the first for a 22-yard touchdown. In the second quarter, Maurice Gary scored on a 69-yard sprint.
Curry and Giles teamed up again in the third, and later Curry found Dominique Jones from 11 yards out.
In the fourth, Keith Hall ran it in from the 36-yard line.
