The public is invited to a transportation meeting on Monday, Sept. 14 at Clanton City Hall.

The meeting will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is sponsored by the Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham on behalf of the Heart of Alabama Rural Planning Organization (HARPO).

Topics will cover local transportation projects. Specific examples include railroad crossing improvements on Center Avenue and County Road 7, and the replacement of Benson Creek Bridge on Alabama Highway 22.

Participants will also learn information about Census 2010 and what they can do to be counted.

“We’re pooling these projects and looking at what we pooled the last time we came,” said public information officer Cissy Edwards. “We invite the public to come participate in our meetings.”

Representatives from the Alabama Department of Transportation will also attend the meeting.

HARPO covers Chilton, Walker, Blount and St. Clair counties.

“The Regional Planning Commission doesn’t control the flow of funding, but we hope to be able to open up conversations between citizens and elected officials with ALDOT,” Edwards said.
