The first Kruisin’ For Kids Motorcycle Ride was organized in about two weeks last year but still had about 40 bikes participate.

This year, with a trip to the Vintage Motorcycle Museum and two meals included on Sept. 19, organizers hope to at least double the number of participants.

“Last year was our first time getting our feet wet, but we did pretty well considering,” The Wellness Group therapist Jeremy Smith said. “Over the last couple of years, with the way the economy has been, places like [Department of Human Resources] have had to cut services, so we were just trying to figure out a way to help them raise money—and to raise awareness that, even in our county, there are kids that don’t have parents to go home to and that foster parents are taking over those responsibilities.”

Last year’s ride went to Oak Mountain State Park.

Participation this year costs $30 per motorcycle and $15 per additional rider, and all proceeds will benefit foster children. The cost includes a breakfast provided by DHR, the museum tour, a barbecue lunch provided by Hickory Chip and a T-shirt for the first 50 registered riders.

Pre-registration has begun and will last until the day before the event. Those interested can pre-register during business hours at DHR, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or sign up beginning at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event.

The ride will leave from Clanton City Park at 10 a.m.

“This is an awesome way to enjoy a late summer Saturday and help those in need at the same time,” said Marilyn Colson, Chilton County DHR director.
