One of Jemison’s main thoroughfares will be getting some due upgrades in the near future.

The Jemison City Council entered into a contract with Montgomery-based firm Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, Inc. Monday night to oversee an engineering project on County Road 42.

The highway, which connects U.S. Highway 31 and I-65 Exit 219, is heavily traveled and is in need of repair in several areas. The road has been mentioned numerous times in council meetings in reference to water-related damage and other issues.

Jemison Mayor Eddie Reed said the purpose of the project was “for upgrades and repairs.”

In other business, the council accepted the resignation of Keith Crosby from the Jemison Police Department and voted to post the position for a period of 10 days according to job specifications.

The council also went into an executive session for the discussion of preliminary negotiations involving matters of trade or commerce.

The council adjourned shortly before 7 p.m.
