Church hosting countywide youth event

Friday the 13th may not seem like the best night to get out and do something, but a local church begs to differ.

Clanton First Assembly of God is hosting a Friday the 13th themed youth event for the entire community tonight at 7.

“No superstition here,” Sarah Boartfield, one of the church’s youth leaders, said. “The purpose of this event is to get the youth of Clanton and surrounding areas together to have a good time in the Lord.”

A team from Montgomery First Assembly will lead the audience in praise and worship, and students from Lomax Assembly of God will perform a drama. And then there’s the “stomp team,” which may require an explanation for those not familiar with what they do.

“It’s almost like an interpretive dance using the stomping of your feet,” Boartfield explained.

Also, Frisbees and other giveaways will be tossed into the crowd at different points during the event, which will be held in the new church sanctuary.

All students are invited to participate.

“It’s not denomination-set,” Boartfield said. “It’s for all denominations, and it’s for all the youth.”

Doors will open at 6:30.
