George Brasher is no stranger to Jemison, and neither are his classic cars.
“I’ve had old cars for about 40 years,” he said.
His first antique car was a 1930 Ford Model A, but his first to drive was a ‘49 Ford, like the blue one he currently owns.
Also in Brasher’s collection are a 1952 Ford, 1965 El Camino, and a 1975 Corvette convertible.
“I generally keep up to four or five. I buy and sell,” he said.
Brasher has lived in the city since building his home in 1965. Prior to that, he served five years as a Marine. His wife, Doris, is a Jemison native.
“We’ve been living and working around Jemison ever since,” he said.
Brasher is serving his fourth term on the Jemison City Council. He said he decided to become a public servant because he likes to help people. Among his notable accomplishments are helping to expand the area’s rescue capabilities in Union Grove and Jemison.
Brasher says the number one issue facing the council is the economy.
“All departments in all cities are hurting for money right now,” he said.
The Brashers have two adult children and four grandchildren.
