Good luck this Valentine’s Day

Love it or hate it, tomorrow is Valentine’s Day — the day we traditionally express love for the important people in our lives.

People have many different ways of celebrating, or in some cases ignoring, this popular holiday (if you can call it that).

Some people even get married on this day so that Feb. 14 will double as their wedding anniversary. Convenient, huh? Does that mean they have to buy extra gifts on that day, or is it like when somebody has their birthday on Christmas and you just “celebrate” both days with one gift?

Last year, the Chilton County Probate Office had a record number of people to get married in the courthouse. I believe the count was 11 couples, although there may have been more.

This year, however, Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, which means the courthouse will be closed. If anybody planned to get married tomorrow, I hope they made the necessary arrangements.

Of course, they could always just get married today. But then you’ve got to consider today is Friday the 13th. Depending on how superstitious you are, today just might be the lucky day for you and your significant other.

You could even make fun of Friday the 13th if you’re daring enough. In the wedding, you could have a black cat pose as the ring bearer. You could exchange vows under a ladder, and break a mirror just for good measure.

During the wedding reception, you might even spill some salt without throwing it over your shoulder.

But I’m sure most people will choose to express their love tomorrow, on the actual day. I doubt, however, that you want to spend too much money in today’s economy. I would suggest attending Pancake Day at Clanton First United Methodist Church, where just $4 gets you all the pancakes and sausage you can eat. And it goes toward a good cause.

You might even request a heart-shaped pancake, although I don’t know if they have the tools for it.

However you choose to celebrate V-Day, just be sure not to forget about it. That would mean bad luck for sure.
