County Web site still in transition

Chilton County’s Web site, www.chiltoncounty.org, is currently undergoing some changes.

In November, the Chilton County Commission turned control of the site, as well as the content of Web sites for Minooka Park and Higgins Ferry Park, over to Racon Marketing Group. The site was previously operated by Precision Integration Systems, Inc., which still handles the county’s data processing.

The commission made the change in hope of improving the site’s appearance and getting more regular updates. While updates are occurring, commissioners seem to want Chilton County to have a new look in cyberspace.

“It’s a nice Web site, but it’s still not much different from what it was,” Commissioner Allen Caton said. “It’s still plain.”

Caton said he would like to see regular updates for commission meetings. Another concern is the lack of pictures on the Web site that show what the county offers in industry.

A recent report from the site administrator said Racon is making daily updates and preparing content for Jefferson State Community College’s Clanton campus, as well as Minooka Park.

Overall, commissioners seemed to like the idea of showing what the county now offers in higher education.

“That will be a big draw for our county,” Red Turnipseed said of the Jeff State campus.

Starting in February, the company will begin developing ads to offset some of the site’s operating costs.
