Minooka hosting holiday run

Minooka Park is bringing back its popular poker run next Saturday. Gates will open at 9 as usual, and the poker run will begin at 11 and last until 3 p.m.
Riders will hit the trails to find five hidden stations, where they will pick up five markers to exchange for an equivalent number of playing cards, which will form a poker hand. The rider with the best poker hand will get the most money. Prize money will be paid out at 3:30 p.m.
Park Ranger Mark Alexander said Minooka’s first poker run involved more than 30 participants and paid out four places.
“It worked out really well,” he said. “We’re just hoping it’s not going to be too cold or rainy. If the weather cooperates, it should be a fantastic day.”
The Cheaha Trail Riders are planning their club ride for that day, so park officials are expecting to see a boost in attendance from the last poker run.
All participants in the run will receive a $5 discount off regular admission price. They will have to pay an additional $10 to participate in the poker run, Alexander said.
Anyone may join in the fun as long as they meet federal guidelines for riding all-terrain vehicles and dirt bikes.
All park guidelines are available for viewing at http://www.minookapark.org.
“Please check park guidelines for rules and regulations,” Alexander recommends to anyone with questions or concerns.
When the poker run ends, all riders should report to the park’s main office overlooking the lake.
