New commission will meet Wednesday

The Chilton County Commission’s regular meeting time for next week has been changed due to a state law.

The commission will meet Wednesday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. instead of Monday due to a law that requires all Alabama county commissions to wait eight days after the election to hold a meeting.

According to the County Modernization Act passed by the Alabama Legislature in 2007, commissioners must not meet at any other time during that particular week.

The meeting time change had nothing to do with the Veterans Day holiday, which falls on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Anyone wishing to address the commission and has not already obtained an appointment time from the County Commission Office must attend the meeting and fill out the form provided beside the sign-in sheet.

The commission will resume its regular meeting schedule starting Monday, Nov. 24. They will meet at 6 o’clock that evening.

Wednesday will be the first meeting for the newly elected commission.

As it stands, these are Red Turnipseed, Greg Moore, Bobby Agee, Heedy Hayes, Tim Mims, Joe Headley and Allen Caton.

The commission boardroom is located on the bottom floor of the Chilton County Courthouse. For more information, please call 755-1551.
