Jemison Elementary School will celebrate Red Ribbon Week next week with festive days of dressing up and fun activities to raise awareness of the importance of living a drug free life.

In conjunction with this event, the Jemison McDonald’s has stepped up to help encourage kids and to place Red Ribbon Week in the public eye.

“Red Ribbon Week has always been something that schools have done, and McDonald’s is helping us show the kids they don’t have to just be drug free at school,” Jemison Elementary School counselor Kari Wilson said. “We are hoping that with support, the kids will start taking the things they learn during Red Ribbon Week outside of school.”

To show kids that the community should be drug-free too, McDonald’s has agreed to give a special treat to all Jemison Elementary School students who wear their ribbons outside of school on Monday.

The Jemison Police Department will also be lending a helping hand to show kids that they are drug-free as they greet students entering school Tuesday.

“We are really excited about Red Ribbon Week, and we want to get the kids excited about it too. By teaching them to be drug-free now, we are hoping to make our future brighter,” Wilson said.
