Maplesville council honors longtime mayor, council member Hayes

MAPLESVILLE – The Maplesville Town Council enjoyed refreshments last night after honoring W.C. Hayes with a plaque for his years of service as both a council member and mayor.

The council was visited by the owners of “Wing ‘n It” who proposed having a fall festival to the council. The festival was approved, and the council agreed to give $100 for two vendor slots at the festival for the police department and the fire department to make presentations. The council also agreed to lend their generators for use during the festival.

The council approved the police department to purchase a new car but rejected all incoming bids for a new truck for the department. They also accepted officer George Fannings resignation as a full-time officer for Maplesville.

In other business the council:

Held a 20-minute executive session on pending legal litigations.

Authorized Cindy Brown’s 90-day probation raise, approval for insurance. Brown’s signature was also approved to be used at the bank.

Approved W.C. Hayes as winning bid of 1984 Chevrolet Truck for $225.25.

Agreed to accept $10,000 from the Cox Chapel Methodist Church to build a pavilion.

Agreed to purchase the incoming mayor Kurt Wallace a laptop, printer and cell phone to be used during his term as mayor.
