Church still taking donations for drive

After collecting $450 in donations and offerings on a successful Domestic Violence Awareness Night, Glad Tidings Church of God continues to accept contributions for an area women’s shelter.
During a special service last week, volunteers heard the survival story of Katie Weathers, who was the guest speaker for the event.
“Our speaker/survivor Katie was incredible,” Adam Baker, one of the drive’s coordinators, said. “It took a lot of courage to stand up and tell her story in front of strangers.”
The church is asking for toiletries, linens and similar necessities to donate to Family Sunshine Center in Montgomery, which provides protection and housing for about 30 women and children.
Requested items include toilet paper, paper towels, bathrobes (new or used) and bath towels (only new).
Items may be dropped off at the church, located at the intersection of County Road 28 and County Road 85, Sundays between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., or at Corner Fair downtown, or Nails by Tara and Malynne. There is an after-hours donation box outside the church also.
Donations will be accepted through the month of October, Baker said.
