Parade to close streets in Clanton

Drivers coming through downtown Clanton this afternoon could experience major delays.

Chilton County High School will be having its annual homecoming parade this afternoon beginning at 3:30 p.m. Streets will close just before the parade begins.

Clanton Police Sgt. Elijah Bearden said any drivers who are driving through town should avoid these areas especially if they are in a hurry.

“Especially during that time,” he said. “That is usually one of the busiest times of the week. People are usually coming home from work and school at that time.”

The parade route will begin as usual at Park Plaza and go down Fourth Avenue North toward Highway 31. Then it will turn left onto Highway 31 and then turn left again at Associated Foods.

Then the parade will come back through town on Sixth Street and turn left on Third Avenue North by Clanton First Baptist Church and end back at Park Plaza.

This parade route is a slight deviation from the Christmas and Peach parade routes. In those events, the parade is usually at least two blocks longer as it turns off Fourth Avenue and connects with Fifth Avenue.

CCHS will play Monroe County for homecoming tonight. Three other local schools are celebrating homecoming tonight. Jemison, Billingsley and Marbury all have homecomings planned for tonight.

Kickoff for all of the games start at 7 p.m. CCHS, Billingsley and Marbury will have crown their homecoming queens at 6:30 p.m. while Billingsley will crown its queen at halftime.
