Generals quell Thorsby’s Rebel uprising

THORSBY – Thorsby had no answer for Horseshoe Bend’s big plays as the Rebels fell 49-14 on homecoming night.
The Generals (2-3, 1-2 region) got going early. On their second play from scrimmage, Mandele Lee turned a short pass from Josh Price into a 63-yard touchdown. David Milam added the extra point making it 7-0.
Brandon Thomas broke free for a 10-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 14-0 with 8:15 left in the second quarter.
Horseshoe Bend doubled the advantage as Price connected with Ethan Carroll for 27-yard and 31-yard touchdown passes to give them a 28-0 lead at the break.
On the first play of the second half, Lee made numerous Thorsby players miss as he went 55 yards for paydirt.
Later, Thorsby’s Andrew Farris was intercepted by Lee and returned it for 45 yards for another score.
The Rebels (0-5, 0-3) didn’t give up. Dillian Simmons capped off a long drive with a 12-yard touchdown run. Farris tacked on the two-point conversion to make it 42-8.
On the ensuing kickoff, Lee returned the kick 65 yards for the General’s final score.
Thorsby still kept fighting as Farris hit Marcus Bray for a 37-yard touchdown, making the final score 49-14.
Farris finished the game with 172 yards on 12 of 21 passes. Bray led the receiving stats with 92 yards. Austin Padgett forced a fumble, which was recovered by Drake Hayes.
The Generals were led by Price, who was 9-for-16 for 175 yards passing, and Lee with 206 all-purpose yards (93 receiving, 44 rushing and 69 in kickoff returns).
