On Monday, the Maplesville Town Council held a special meeting to hire Cindy Brown as the town’s court clerk.

Outgoing Court Clerk Becky Gatlin put in her resignation last week to accept another position.

The council accepted her resignation during the meeting and discussed nine applications for the open position. The council then unanimously agreed to hire Cindy Brown for the position and she started the job on Tuesday.

“The council felt that she was the right person for the job, and they went a head and hired her so she could train with Becky before she leaves next Friday,” said Sheila Haigler, Town Clerk of Maplesville.

Brown is a long time resident of Randolph where she has lived for 22 years with her husband Kenny Brown, a business owner in Maplesville and her son Hunter Brown, a graduate of Maplesville High School.

For the last 20 years, Brown has worked in the Health Care field and applied for the Court Clerk opening for an opportunity to work within the community, which she lives.

She said, “I think that it’s important to have good people working in their city limits to help with new opportunities for the town and its people.”

Brown has accepted taking over the court clerks position, which consists of many tasks including handling misdemeanor tickets, collecting money, correctly disbursing money, handling complaints and warrants and assisting the police department with paperwork as well as getting all of the cases ready for court each month.
