A 23-year-old man died Aug. 8 after receiving head injuries at Adient metals manufacturing plant in Clanton.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. and allegedly involved a laser welder that inflicted several critical and ultimately fatal head injuries.

According to Chief of Police Keith Maddox, the employee was transported to St. Vincent’s Chilton, where he died from his injuries.

A Chilton County Deputy in the area responded to the accident, but the case is now being handled by the Clanton Police Department and OSHA investigative services, Assistant Chief Deputy Shane Mayfield said.

“We take safety very seriously, so we’re investigating both with OSHA and other investigative bodies, and we’re cooperating,” Adient Communication Director Mary Kay Dodero said.

Dodero said meanwhile the family of the deceased and Adient employees are receiving much support and assistance during this difficult time.
