Chilton County high school hosted a pair of basketball games Wednesday afternoon during school hours. The Tigers’ boys and girls teams won with both victories over Billingsley.

The boys began the doubleheader with a commanding 57-20 win that was fueled by a discrepancy from beyond the arc.

“We have a very good balance of both younger and older guys,” Chilton County boys head coach Deon Timmons said. “I feel like we’re getting our cohesion back, and we should be fine once we get in the groove.”

In the game, Chilton County knocked down seven three-pointers compared to two for Billingsley. The lack of production from bonus land is a sign that the Bears continue to search for the right combination.

Korey Albert led Chilton County with a game-high 18 points while Mondez Jones added eight.

The play of James Woods and Isaac Green were bright spots for Billingsley as it moves forward into the season—Primarily on the offensive end as Green finished with eight points and Woods was a close second with seven points.

“We’ve got a chance, but our guys have to buy in to what we’re trying to do,” Billingsley boys head coach Tyson McLean said.

Chilton County’s girls squad captured its first victory of the season with a 57-35 home win over Billingsley.

The offense was on display, as the girls equaled the number of points scored by the boys in the prior contest.

“It’s always big when you get that first win,” Chilton County girls head coach Robert Bradford said. “We’ve been close in a lot of games, but today we were playing to win.”

Lexis Blackman scored a game-high 19 points from her guard position and proved dangerous from beyond the arc with a trio of long-range bombs. Sommer Richardson tallied nine points to help spark the offense.

Abby Tindol accounted for 14 points and the led the way for Billingsley. MacKenzie Glass finished the game with eight points for the Bears.
