Humane Society plans upcoming events to benefit shelter

On June 27 the Chilton Cruisers will hold their annual car show during the Peach Festival with the proceeds of the benefit going to the Chilton County Humane Society.

Board member Katherine Reece recently spoke to the members of the Chilton Cruisers and explained the challenges the shelter faces. These challenges include animals being surrendered who are sick, the large difference between the number of animals brought to the shelter and the number of animals adopted, and funding shortfalls.

“The Humane Society is deeply grateful to the Chilton Cruisers and our other business sponsors who are stepping up to help the county’s unwanted animals,” a release from the Humane Society said.

The shelter is also planning a Petting Zoo and Pony Ride fundraiser at Ollie Park on April 4 from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Tickled Pink Petting Zoo is bringing animals for the children to pet and love and to educate children about the animals. Cowboy the kangaroo, Fluffy the alligator, calves, a mini donkey, a llama, mini horses, snakes, tortoises, hedgehogs, ferrets, goats and sheep will be at the event, the release said.

Chilton County Physical Therapy is hosting Dimitri’s Pony Rides for the Humane Society.

There will also be a bake sale table, raffle items, Easter pictures with animals, an Easter egg hunt and more.

Those planning to attend are asked to bring cat litter, paper towels, cat, puppy and dog food or Fabuloso cleaner for admission to the event.

There will also be an auction from 4-6 p.m. and raffle at the pavilion at Ollie Park. Daniel Hall will be the auctioneer.
