The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting Tuesday for a new dentistry in Clanton.

Matthew J. McCain, DMD, celebrated a grand opening of his new practice, located at 700 Seventh St. S on Tuesday.

McCain said the opportunity to be a part of a community like Clanton was one he couldn’t pass up.

“I grew up in Alabaster, and I knew wanted to have a dental office in a close (knit) community, which I felt Clanton provided,” he said. ” I also feel there’s a lot of growth potential in Clanton, so I want to come in and hopefully be a part of that.”

McCain also said his goal in opening the office was to provide care to patients of all ages.

“We’re a family dentistry,” he said. “We’ll see kids as soon as they get that first tooth. We’ll talk to the parents about what to expect, and how to take care of those teeth, (and serve) adults.”

McCain said the office, which is open Mondays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., intends to provide a variety of services.

“General dentistry encompasses just about everything,” he said. “Root canals, crowns and bridges, we do dentures and extractions and also cosmetic denitistry like whitening.”

The office also offers younger patients amenities to help them feel more at ease when visiting.

“We’ve got a little play area that’s got some toys and things like that,” he said. “Our treatment rooms have TVs in them so we can pipe in cartoons. We also provide nitrous oxide, which is what people call laughing gas, (to) help the kids that are a little more nervous.”

McCain also said patient comfort was his main concern.

“Really the big thing we do to help with kids is, we try to take our time with them,” he said. “We’re not interested in working real fast. It we need to take a little more time to make a child feel more comfortable, then we’re fine to do it.”
