Board of Ed. leases land to county for fair

The Chilton County Board of Education voted to lease several parcels of land to the county for $1 per year for 25 years at the regularly scheduled board meeting Tuesday.

The land is located off Chilton County Road 28, or Second Avenue South, near the intersection with Alabama Highway 145.

Earlier this year, the board expressed interest in creating a long-term lease with the county to allow it to use more than 13 acres of land the board owns for the annual Chilton County Fair sponsored by the Clanton Kiwanis Club.

Since the Kiwanis Club is a not-for-profit organization, the land (sometimes referred to as “the old Adair School land”) would have to be in the county’s name in order for the club to use it for the fair.

The county and city of Clanton each own portions of land around the board’s land that would also need to be used for the fairgrounds.

In other news, the board:

•Approved leave requests for Beverly Adams, maternity, beginning Nov. 3 and returning Feb. 1, 2015; and Kelly J. Cummings, catastrophic, beginning Oct. 28 and ending May 22, 2015.

•Approved paying substitutes for one and a half days for the following CCEA members to attend the AEA Delegate Assembly in Montgomery Dec. 4-6: Jacqueline Sullivan Ivey, Maplesville High School; Pamela Bearden, LeCroy Career Technical Center; Vikii Mims, Clanton Alternative Program; Donna Velasquez, Clanton Intermediate School; Julie Harrison, Clanton Elementary School;Vivian Smith, Clanton Elementary School; and Kristi Parrish, Clanton Elementary School.

•Approved resignations for Kimberly Dixon Martin, special education teacher assistant at Clanton Middle School, effective Oct. 29 and Ronnie A. Wilson, Jemison High School Principal, effective Dec. 31.

•Approved the following schools/shop requests:

Isabella: Approval of Barbara Rush as a certified substitute ($71.25/day) for Sanderson resignation beginning Nov. 3.

Jemison Middle: Approval of Tiffany Collins as a certified substitute ($71.25/day) for Robinson leave beginning Sept. 24.

Bus Shop: Approval to add one additional bus to Raymond Davidson’s fueling fleet retroactive to Nov. 3.

•Approved the following employees:

Clanton Intermediate: Stephanie Wesson, special education teacher assistant (only for the remainder of this school year).

Isabella: Jillian Tow, English teacher.

Jemison Middle: Ashlin Hilyer Castleberry as Title 1 Teacher Assistant (only for remainder of this school year).

Jemison High: Reba E. Price, cafeteria assistant.

LeCroy Career Technical Center: Jason Duren, auto collision repair instructor.

Transportation Department: Aaron Little, bus driver, Clanton route and Cynthia Maddox, bus driver, special education route.
