Republican candidate Dr. Chad Mathis officially filed qualifying paperwork Jan. 13 in the race for Alabama’s 6th Congressional District.

In addition to qualifying, Mathis announced that he raised roughly $356,000 since launching his campaign in October.

“Thanks in large part to the generosity of friends, family and supporters who have contributed to our campaign, I feel we are on our way to victory,” Mathis said in a release. “Starting the first quarter of 2014 with more than $305,000 cash on-hand shows the strength of this campaign.”

Mathis is an orthopedic surgeon from Indian Springs.

Mathis said 84 percent of the money raised came from the state of Alabama. Doctors who support Mathis due to his plan to repeal and replace Obamacare made up 22 percent of contributions.

Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD) and Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) both contributed $1,000 from their congressional campaign accounts.

“The impressive financial report we plan to file shows the support I have to repeal and replace Obamacare,” Mathis said. “It will be my mission to achieve this the moment I am sworn into office.”
