BOE approves school system personnel changes (updated)

In a specially called meeting Thursday afternoon, the Chilton County Board of Education made several decisions regarding personnel.

The board approved another wave of employees, as well as four resignations and to post vacancies, including a request to post a new special education preschool teacher assistant position at Clanton Elementary School.

The following employees were approved:

•Chilton County High – Cindy Windham, special education teacher assistant.

•Clanton Elementary – Daniel Justice, custodian (12 months); Shannon Lee, elementary teacher; Kimberly Chastain, elementary teacher; Tracy Kirtland, special education teacher assistant; and Audrea Moore, special education teacher assistant.

•Clanton Intermediate – Jodi Acker-Lawley, elementary teacher (transfer); Crystal Sabat, elementary teacher (transfer).

•Clanton Middle School – Kala Moore, Chilton Alternative Program teacher assistant; Kelli Muncher, .5 unit counselor (itinerant with Isabella); Thomas Hughes, elementary teacher; Sonja Henley, elementary teacher (Title I).

•Isabella – Kelli Muncher, .5 unit counselor (itinerant with Clanton Middle).

•Jemison Elementary – Jasmine Bradley, elementary teacher; Mathew McKinney; Tiffany Shannon, elementary teacher.

•Jemison Middle – Sarah Robinson, elementary teacher.

•Jemison High – Connie Haggard, special education teacher assistant.

•Maplesville – Ronnie Undem, general science teacher (grades 7–12).

•Thorsby – LaSheka Price, language arts teacher (grades 7–12); Meghan Patterson Owens, science/social studies teacher (grades 7–12).

•Verbena High – Dwight Swindle, assistant principal (transfer); Kelley Robertson, counselor/teacher.

•Central Office – Renee Ousley, full-time speech therapist (transfer); Nicholas Cardwell, network/IT specialist.

The board approved the following resignations:

•Todd Alexander, teacher at Jemison Middle, effective July 26.

•Linda K. Anderson, teacher at Clanton Elementary, effective July 25.

•Angela Carr, cafeteria assistant at Jemison High, effective July 29.

•Megan T. Jones, teacher at Clanton Elementary, effective Aug. 1.

Also in personnel business, the board approved a recommendation, as per state unit allotments, to change classifications for: Robin Cagle, .5 unit teacher/.5 unit assistant principal, CES; Karen Cox, from .5 unit teacher/.5 unit counselor to 1.0 unit counselor, JHS; and Sherry Fancher, from .5 unit teacher/.5 unit counselor to 1.0 unit assistant principal, JES.

In addition, two leave requests and a federal programs request to hire 2 class size reduction units at Maplesville High School were approved.

In other business Thursday, the board:

•Approved to request bids on a mop and mat service.

•Approved to request bids on two special education buses and 12 regular education buses.

•Granted permission for the technology coordinator to request bids on internal connections for Chilton County High and Clanton Elementary in order to apply for e-rate funds.

•Approved the substitute list.

•Approved a copier lease agreement between Jemison High and Berney Office Solution for a term of 60 months.

•Approved for Walmart to use one school bus Aug. 2–4 as a “charity draw/visual aid” for customers to donate school supplies for Chilton County Schools.

•Approved a copier lease agreement between Clanton Intermediate and Nohab Business Products for a term of 60 months.

•Approved for the Verbena Youth Football League to use Verbena’s football field during the 2013 season.

•Met in executive session to discuss a pending legal matter.
