Mustangs win IHS Invitational tournament

Published 6:21pm Thursday, September 13, 2012

Isabella’s volleyball team hosted the Isabella Invitational on Sept. 8, and the Mustangs won the tournament—barely.

IHS (12-3 as of Wednesday) needed the third tiebreaker to claim the championship over Marbury and Shelby County.

The Mustangs, ranked No. 8 in Class 2A in the latest Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, defeated Akron, Billingsley and Marbury but lost to Shelby County.

Marbury defeated SCHS, forcing the three-way tie for first place.

Isabella was declared the winner based on point differential.

Outstanding performances by the Mustangs include:

•Khadijah Craig: 26 kills, five blocks and two aces in four tournament games combined.

•Erika Brascome: 12 kills, three blocks and 18 aces.

•Landy Griffith: 12 kills, 21 aces and 15 digs.

•Sydney Foster: 17 assists and three aces.

•Misha Carroll: 14 digs.

IHS will host a Drive One 4 UR School event at Baugh Ford in Clanton on Saturday. For everyone who test drives a new vehicle, Ford will donate $20 to the Isabella volleyball program.

The dealership will be open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
