Week 9 high school football roundup

Isabella 61, Ellwood Christian 0

The Mustangs built a 61-0 lead by halftime and cruised to victory during an abbreviated second half.

The game started off with a bang for Isabella, Jaqarise Stacy returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a score.

On the ensuing kickoff, Hunter Langston delivered a crushing hit and Jarrett Baker pounced on a fumble at the Ellwood Christian 13-yard line.

Austin Brasher found the end zone one play later from 13 yards out, as the Mustangs led 14-0 just 32 seconds into the game.

The offense continued to move the ball at will and Isabella led 42-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second half consisted of four-minute quarters, as the defense kept the shutout intact throughout the contest.

The defense forced five turnovers in the game, including interceptions by Brasher and Kendall Reeves. Brasher returned his interception 14 yards for a score.

Nine different players ran the ball for Isabella, led by Baker with 44 yards, while Brasher and Jarred Campbell combined for a handful of scores.

Stacy completed three passes in the game, two for touchdowns.

Keith 34, Thorsby 12

The Keith Bears paid a visit to Thorsby on Friday night to take on the Rebels in a Class 2A Region 4 matchup.

Thorsby came into the game (1-7, 1-4) while the Bears came in at (4-4, 4-2).

While neither team had much to play for other than Keith’s seeding in the playoffs, both teams wanted to gain some confidence heading toward the playoffs or next season.

The Bears would eventually run away with this one to win by a final score of 34-12, which would sure up the number three seed in Region 4, behind two seed Verbena and one seed Aliceville.

Thorsby has now lost seven straight games since their win against Francis Marion back on Sept. 2, and things will not get much easier next week when the Rebels have to travel to Class 1A Region 3 Isabella who is 8-1 on the year.

A win should help put this young team over the top heading into next season.

Verbena 54, Autaugaville 0

Verbena tacked on another win Friday night against Autaugaville at home. The Red Devils won 54-0.

Verbena is on a three-win streak, including a region victory against Francis Marion last week on the road.

Next week, the Red Devils roll over to Berry High School, who is also 5-4.
