Suspicious person in Thorsby case identified

A man at first suspected of attempted kidnapping in Thorsby has been identified and instead will face trespassing charges.

On June 9, three young females were out playing off Iowa Avenue near Collins Street in Thorsby when a stranger rode by the girls in a vehicle and circled the street several times.

The car finally parked between two sheds in one of the girl’s parents’ driveway. The driver asked a 9-year-old girl to approach him and proceeded to get out of his car as he asked several more times.

The girl ran to her aunt’s home nearby.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Upon learning of this incident, two citizens were able to provide information that helped identify the suspect, said Thorsby Police Chief Rodney Barnett.

The suspect is cooperating with authorities and will be charged with trespassing, according to Barnett.

Barnett declined to provide further information because the investigation is ongoing.
