The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Sew Charming, a new embroidery shop in Clanton, on Tuesday.

The business, located at 9 Village Square, specializes in embroidery, appliqué and vinyl.

Owner Penny Smith said she has been sewing for years and taking orders from home since last spring, and she decided to finally open her own store.

Smith shares the business’s duties with her two daughters, Emily and Elizabeth Smith.

“I started sewing for my daughters,” Smith said. “I’ve always dreamed of having an actual sewing shop. We’ve had fun with it so far.”

Sew Charming is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Smith encourages clients to shop the store’s inventory but also accepts outside material for embroidery.

If anyone would like their own item embroidered, they can take it by the store during business hours.

The current inventory includes baby items, school supplies, hats, shirts, swimsuits, drink huggers and a variety of other things.

Customers have the option of several different colors and fonts of embroidery.

According to Smith, she and her daughters are usually able to complete any order in a matter of a few days.

Orders can be placed in the store or through the business’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/sewcharmingembroidery.
