UA alumni to host benefit for tornado relief

The University of Alabama National Alumni Association Chilton County Chapter will host a benefit event to assist those still in need after the April 27 tornados.

The benefit, which is scheduled for June 30, will take place at Clanton First United Methodist Church.

The chapter normally hosts a banquet in May, but it was postponed after the tornados took place. Instead of rescheduling it, the group decided to host a benefit in partnership with Temporary Emergency Services to help out the relief efforts.

“We’re combining our usual banquet and fall pep rally,” said Ronnie Carmichael, event organizer. “They still need donations in Tuscaloosa, and we can’t forget about them over there.”

In addition to collecting donations, former Crimson Tide quarterback Scott Hunter will speak. Hunter played under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant from 1968 to 1970, and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 1971.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 per person, $15 per couple and $5 for children 5 and under.

Refreshments will be provided, and the chapter is accepting all donations other than clothing.

For more information, call Carmichael at 755-0968.
