County set for large paving project
The residents of Chilton County will soon be seeing a noticeable impact from their county sales tax dollars.
According to the Elect Matt Mims for Chilton County Commission Facebook page, Phase 1 of the county’s road paving project will begin Jan. 13.
Mims is a current county commissioner.
The project will only consist of county roads and will start with County Road 28 to Higgins Ferry Park.
Next in line will be County Road 32 from the Clanton city limit to Refuge Church followed by County Road 29 in the Thorsby/Isabella area from County Road 37 to Highway 22.
The first three portions of the project will follow the mentioned planned order, but there will be no particular order of completion for the following roads: County Road 107 in West Chilton, County Road 79 in Verbena, County Road 45 in Maplesville and County Road 37 from Pool’s Crossroads to the Autauga County line.
Some of the factors that were considered by the Commission when deciding which roads would be included in Phase 1 included traffic counts, heavy truck traffic, revenue increase for the county and deterioration.
Each road in the project will be paved with asphalt and not chip seal.
According to Mims, a road that will be highly regarded for Phase 2 is County Road 15 from Highway 22 to the Isabella community due to its high volume of school traffic.
