Band plans pageant to buy new uniforms

By Justin Averette

Jemison High School’s band hopes to raise enough money from its annual Heart of Dixie Pageant to buy new uniforms.
The current uniforms are 13 years old and needed replacing. They have been stitched up far too many times, said Jemison Blue Regiment Band President Kathy Broadhead.
“My husband says it looks like a sewing convention before every game,” said Broadhead.
Money from the pageant would go toward a down payment on the uniforms.
The 12th Heart of Dixie Pageant will be Saturday, Feb. 27 at Jemison High School’s auditorium. Pageants are throughout the afternoon and evening, with the younger contestant groups starting at 3 p.m. and the older contestants at 7 p.m.
Age groups are newborn-23 month olds, 2 and 3 year olds, 4 and 5 year olds, 6 and 7 year olds, 8 and 9 year olds, 10 and 11 year olds, 12 and 13 year olds, 14 and 15 year olds, and 16-19 year olds.
A $300 scholarship will be given to the winner of the oldest age category.
Deadline for entry is Feb. 15. For more information about entering, call (205) 337-7626 or (205) 688-6547.
Entry forms are available at www.chilton.k12.al.us  or may be picked up at Jemison High School.
Admission to the pageant will be $2 for students and $3 for adults. Ages four and under are admitted free.
