Support county sports as a whole

The support that I saw while attending the 23rd annual Mustang Feast on March 3 was outstanding.

It is no secret that Chilton County is passionate about athletics, but what I saw at the event shows the strength of the sports scene as a whole in the county.

Often times so much attention gets placed on football, and for good reason, but it can also overshadow the various other sports that are being played throughout the year.

The main thing that I took away from covering the Mustang Feast was that it did not narrow its focus to a specific sport at Isabella High School, but instead looked to benefit the entire athletic program at the school.

Seeing people from all over the county attend the event was another promising sign.

The goal of the fundraiser was to raise money for Isabella athletics, but there was also a much wider scope.

If you talk to any coach in the county long enough, no matter the sport, they will convey the message that healthy competition within a team helps breed success.

That is the logic that can be applied to events such as the Mustang Feast.

The best way to insure that Chilton County schools are competing for state titles is to strengthen from within.

Support of fundraising events is the best way to help a program grow, and in turn raise its competitive level in all sports.

So the next time there is a major fundraising event going on at a school, even if it is not yours, I advise you to think strongly about supporting any way that you can.

You would not just be helping out the school, but also the athletic landscape of the county.
