Municipal election qualifying ends Tuesday

Tuesday is the final day candidates can qualify for municipal elections.

Those interested in running for office in Jemison, Maplesville or Thorsby must have paperwork turned in and fees paid (if applicable) to their respective city clerks by 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Clanton candidates for mayor and city council should complete qualifying before 4:30 p.m.

Each candidate must complete a statement of candidacy before the end of the day Tuesday. Other paperwork, including a statement of economic interest, also must be filled out.

Municipalities charge different amounts for qualifying fees. The fee is $50 in Clanton and Maplesville and $10 in Thorsby. Jemison does not charge a fee.
