Jamia Moore was crowned on homecoming night for the third time as a high school student, but the most recent is the most important of all.

She was named Maplesville’s 2018 homecoming queen during a halftime ceremony against Ellwood Christian on Oct. 5.

“When I first heard my name called, my heart dropped,” Moore said. “I was excited, happy and kind of sad at the same time.”

The mix of emotions was brought about because of it being her senior year, and it was the last time she would partake in homecoming festivities as a student.

She looks forward to coming back and soaking up the homecoming experience as an alumna and knowing she was once a homecoming queen.

Moore had been a member of the homecoming court the past three years, winning two of those years.

The past success gave her high hopes heading into this year.

According to Moore, the homecoming queen crown will help take the place of the other two crowns, which were destroyed in a house fire.

“Winning senior year will make up for it,” Moore said.

Moore already has the perfect spot picked out to display her new crown. It will be placed on top of her new dresser.

Her family was by her side on the field to share in the celebration.

“She [mother] was even more excited than me,” Moore said. “She made sure that I looked awesome.”

Despite some nervous and stressed out times leading up to name being called, it was an experience that she would not trade for anything.

“It was all worth it in the end,” Moore said.
