Lighthouse Cruisers to hold annual benefit ride

The Lighthouse Cruisers will hold the Eighth Annual Beans and Rice Fundraiser Benefit Ride on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m.

The Lighthouse Cruisers are a Christian motorcyclist association and the ride is being hosted by the Clanton chapter that includes 20 active members.

“They’ve [Lighthouse Crusiers] been a model for a lot of church ministries who do that sort of thing,” said Dennis Suchy, a member with the association.

All motorcyclists are invited to take part in the event, which starts and ends at Trinity Episcopal Church located at 503 Second Ave. S. in Clanton.

A typical number most years is about 35 bikes that will form the riding party.

The route is 90 miles long and will consist of back into parts of Chilton and Dallas Counties along Highway 22.

“We will have a road captain that gives a safety brief before the ride,” Suchy said. “We make sure not to break the speed limit.”

According to Suchy, it is a perfect ride for beginners or those not familiar with riding in groups.

“It is just a straight and relaxing ride with some beautiful scenery,” Suchy said.

Lunch will be provided and prepared by the ladies of Trinity Episcopal Church.

There is an entry fee of $25 per bike and each rider is asked to consider giving anything else that they can, such as canned food, beans, rice, peanut butter, and various other non-perishable items.

The items will be donated to help feed the hungry in Chilton County.
