Lake trash a disgrace

Dear Editor,

I went down to the boat launch at Lay Lake with my friend from Florida that hasn’t lived here long. I was totally embarrassed by the litter and how just plain disgusting it was.

But I’d noticed new piers built with composite material. I don’t understand why there were no garbage cans or how these people can litter everywhere out on the flatlands and not get fined for it.

A lot of litter was in the water, but just as much or more was on the ground! I wouldn’t swim in it if it was the only place left on earth with water. We picked up what our five gallon buckets would hold, which took about 2-3 minutes.

Can nothing be done to stop this? I used to hang out there when I was in high school, and it wasn’t that bad then. And I never littered. I’d take a bag to put anything I had to throw away into.

What’s wrong with these uncaring folks? What can be done to make it safer for animals and humans alike? I took photos of how disgusting it was if you’d care to see them.
