SHPDA issues certificate of need to Fresenius Kidney Care

The State Health Planning and Development Agency issued a certificate of need on Jan. 29 to Fresenius Kidney Care Clanton for the addition of nine in-center hemodialysis stations.

The facility is located at 275 Health Center Drive in Clanton and is a treatment center for those dealing with kidney disease.

Adding the nine in-center stations will give the treatment center a total of 21 in-center stations, including one isolation station.

According to an SHPDA press release, the estimated cost of the project is $5.23 million.

The Fresenius Kidney Care website states that hemodialysis is the only type of dialysis offered in-center.

Hemodialysis is a process that uses a dialyzer or “artificial kidney” to filter blood outside the body before returning it to the body.

The details of the proposal, such as a date and time for the additions to be implemented, are still in the process of being worked out.

Further information about the stations being added to the facility will be in a future edition of The Clanton Advertiser.
