The temperature continues to rise and school is out for the summer, which means a busy time of year for Jemison Sno Biz and Fireworks.

In July of 2015, Mike Price took over the business located right off Interstate 65 at Exit 219 and on County Road 42 in Jemison.

Price had a fireworks stand that he operated during specific times throughout the year.

Since acquiring the business, he continues to sell fireworks but has expanded the selection of products that are available to customers, such as plants, produce, shaved ice, smoothies, ice cream and barbecue sandwiches.

Still within the first year, Price relies heavily on family members to help operate the business.

According to Price, the business did not open until the end of July 2015 and was unable to take full advantage of the summer months.

Jemison Sno Biz and Fireworks is located right off the highway and has shown the ability to attract travelers that are just passing by.

Price attempts to keep the selves stocked with items, such as flashlights and tire gauges, so that travelers might have what they need if a roadside situation arises.

With the Peach Queen Campground less than a mile from the business, Price also looks to cater to families that are spending time on vacation.

“I try to sell anything to do with camping and cars,” Price said.

Jemison Sno Biz and Fireworks is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., but will extend its hours to 10 p.m. about 10 days leading up to July 4 and midnight during the holiday weekend.

“That weekend is our biggest time of year to sell fireworks,” Price said. “If you don’t sell them by then, it will be New Year’s before they sell again.”
