Plenty to do at the Chilton County Fair

September brings three things to Chilton County, and they all begin with ‘F’ — fall, fun and the fair.

Following is a basic, day-by-day guide of activities offered at the fair, which is being held Sept. 27 through Oct. 2 at the Chilton County Fairgrounds on Airport Road:

Monday

•Little Ones Farm Exhibit, 6-8 p.m. — Sponsored by the Alabama Cooperative Extension System and Chilton County 4-H, this exhibit introduces children to agriculture through hands-on activities such as a petting zoo, fishpond and an observation hive with honeybees. It’s free after admission.

Tuesday

•Goat and Lamb Show, 6 p.m.: This year, the lamb show involves animals from across the state, while the goat show is limited to Chilton County and adjacent counties.

•Attitudes Dance Group will perform at 6:30 p.m.

•Cast members of Chilton County High School’s “Blast from the Past” will perform a few oldies for the crowd at 7 p.m.

•The popular Demolition Derby will return at 7 p.m.

Wednesday

•Southern Pride Band will take to the stage at 7 p.m.

Thursday

•The Steer Show for Chilton County Beef Club members will be held at 6 p.m.

•Children’s choirs from churches around the county will sing at 6:30 p.m.

•Gospel music acts Gene Lowery and The Samaritans, bluegrass group The Hoggle Family, Adreane Barrington and Maddy Barrington, 7-9 p.m.

Friday

•Gospel music acts return to the stage, including Percy Scott and The Fishers of Men, Gary McKee, and Anna Wilson.

Saturday

The Chilton County Fair is sponsored by the Clanton Kiwanis Club. Admission is $4 per person, and children 3 and under get in free. All proceeds will go toward local charities.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. each night except Saturday, when gates open at 5 p.m.

Just a reminder: Exhibit entries must be brought to the exhibit building on Saturday, Sept. 25, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
