Lilly Barnett was chosen as the local school and district level winner of the Pocanachi Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for exhibiting good citizenship qualities at school and in her community.

The Thorsby senior now moves on to the national level, and recently wrote an essay for an opportunity to receive a scholarship.

“I’m just searching for scholarships, and it definitely helps to have something to build on,” Barnett said. “It really means a lot and I’m pretty proud to be recognized.”

In the essay, she focused on the topic of involvement in order to grow as citizens.

“It takes everyone to contribute, and not just a certain amount of people or social class,” Barnett said.

Barnett embodies the Thorsby community as a whole, which has been developed on close-knit relationships and a strong commitment to helping others.

“Being a good citizen is a lot of things,” Barnett said. “It’s not just one quality. I feel like I’ve done my part within the community.”

As a memento for her nomination, Barnett was awarded a framed certificate and a commemorative pin.

The certificate and pin are memories that Barnett can enjoy in the future when she looks back and reminisces about her senior year at Thorsby.

“It just makes you want to work even harder in order to live up to the honor,” Barnett said.
