County churches unite for prayer rally

By STEVEN CALHOUN/Staff Writer

Three county churches are coming together to host a night of prayer in Thorsby.

The One Voice Prayer Rally will be held at Richard Wood Park in Thorsby at 7 p.m. Pastors from Church at Bethel, The Lighthouse Church and Lomax Assembly of God will lead the community in prayer at the event.

“I’ve believed for a long time that it was important for the churches … and pastors to come together,” said Travis Bussey, pastor of The Lighthouse Church.

“I had been praying … and thinking about this and one day someone I greatly respect said they’d been praying about the same thing, so from that point it was like a mandate … to get together and have a prayer rally … asking God to help us.”

Pastors Travis Bussey, Jeff Calhoun and Wayne Hughes joined forces to put together the prayer rally. Two of the churches are non-denominational, and one is a member of the Assemblies of God. This did not slow the pastors down, however.

“We’re a little different, but on the main things … the things that matter, we’re alike,” said Bussey.

Each pastor will read a scripture and lead prayer concerning one of the night’s four topics: the church, the people, the children and the government.

“I think our country really needs help right now,” said Bussey. “People are struggling, people are afraid. More than ever, we need faith in Jesus Christ for this time we’re facing.”

The pastors invite the public to come join them in prayer for Chilton County and the nation as a whole.
