Clanton Middle School student dies

A 12-year-old Clanton Middle School student died Tuesday night.

Sixth grader Dajia Lee passed at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham.

Chilton County Sheriff Kevin Davis said the death is being investigated as a suicide.

Lee had been hospitalized since Saturday after being found by a relative in her home.

The situation is also being investigated by Chilton County Schools, Superintendent Dave Hayden said.

“I want to get everything together,” Hayden said. “The sheriff’s school resource officer is trained in this sort of thing, and our teachers and administrators are, too, to some degree. Everybody looks into it from every possible angle.”

Hayden said CMS Counselor Debra Davis is prepared to help students cope with the loss of their classmate.

Information about funeral services was not available Wednesday.
