Sheriff candidates to answer questions at political forum
Chilton County voters on Tuesday will have an opportunity to hear from candidates for local offices.
The Chilton County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a political forum at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Clanton City Hall, featuring candidates for Chilton County Sheriff and Chilton County Revenue Commissioner.
Both of the offices will be voted on during the Nov. 4 General Election.
Tuesday’s event will feature sheriff candidates Eddie Price, John Shearon and Terry Wilson answering questions about topics related to the office and their campaign.
The event will be moderated by Chilton County Circuit Judge Rhonda Hardesty and is free to attend.
While Doug Ward, Libertarian candidate for revenue commissioner, will not be present at the forum, Republican candidate Tim Little will address the audience.
“The sheriff’s race is highly contested with a Republican, Democrat and Independent all vying for the same position,” said Janice Hull, managing consultant for the Chamber. “We at the Chamber feel a responsibility to help voters know the issues and meet the candidates. The revenue commissioner is a new position, so this will have its own challenges.”
Also, Sibley Reynolds with the Chilton County Healthcare Authority will update attendees on the progress being made to build and open a new hospital in Chilton County. Reynolds will present artist renderings, a site plan and floor plan for the proposed facility that will be located off Highway 145 in Clanton.
“While issues related to voting on the hospital have been settled, we all want to keep abreast of the progress,” Hull said.
