The Chilton County Sheriff’s Office are helping law enforcement family in Bibb County while they mourn the loss of their Sheriff, Keith Hannah.
“Keith was a friend of mine and somebody that I appreciated very much,” said Sheriff John Shearon of Chilton County. “The last two years I’ve needed to lean on him a lot.”
The Bibb County sheriff passed away early during the week of Nov. 14. The incident is still under investigation.
Shearon said a friend showed him the news on his phone, and he immediately started finding a way to help.
“When I saw the news, I took off to Bibb County,” said Shearon. “I was in shock.”
Shearon said the Chilton County department wanted everyone from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office to be able to be together during this hard time.
The Chilton County office sent deputies Wednesday, Nov. 16 to help their fellow law enforcement. This allowed Bibb County deputies to take some time to mourn.
According to Shearon, the Chilton County deputies were called in and worked on their off day to support Bibb County so that no one would be pulled from duty in Chilton County.
There were four deputies in a rotation. Two deputies were helping with grief counseling and two were handling calls.
According to Shearon, deputies and reserves from Chilton County will do the same thing on Nov. 19 during Hannah’s funeral.
“I don’t hesitate to say I know they would do the same thing,” said Shearon. “We wanted to do this so they could support each other and the family. We want to keep the department and family in our prayers.”
