Auto manufacturing company to host open house

Kumi Manufacturing of Alabama (KMA) will celebrate 10 years in Clanton by hosting an open house for the factory’s employees and their families.

The open house will be held Saturday, July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at KMA.

Food and activities for children will be provided, and those in attendance can take tours of the plant to see where their family members work.

“We’ve had a difficult year with being a Japanese company and having the earthquake and tsunami hinder us,” said Debbie Meeks, senior manager of Human Resources Environmental Health and Safety.

A few of months after the disaster, the company is recovering and moving forward.

KMA has 225 employees, and 90 percent of its workforce is from Chilton County.

KMA is a plastic injection molding company that produces auto parts for Honda out of Lincoln, Ala. They produce 56 parts for Honda Odyssey, the Pilot and the Ridgline.

“We anticipate about 600 people,” said Meeks. “We hope the event will turn out fabulous.”

Clanton Mayor Billy Joe Driver; Mike Robertson, executive director of the Chilton County Chamber of Commerce; and Clanton Fire Chief David Driver will be in attendance.

Also, a memorial ceremony will be held for employees that have passed while employed with the company.
