Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel to host 2nd Annual Fall Concert

Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel will hold its 2nd Annual Fall Musical Heritage Concert on Oct. 23 beginning at 6 p.m. at the chapel.

This year’s guest performer will be Bryan Bowers, who is a singer and songwriter with Virginia roots.

He is most acclaimed for his skill at playing the autoharp, which has led to him winning several awards and receiving a multitude of recognition.

An autoharp is a string instrument that is most commonly associated with Bluegrass and Folk music genres.

Bowers was named a contemporary inductee in the Autoharp Hall of Fame in 1993.

“We started this organization as a way to appreciate our cultural heritage,” Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel board member Ola Taylor said. “The people of this community connect with so many cultures.”

Last year, Scottish culture was the focus with Jim Malcolm performing Scottish folk songs and year two will pertain to the mountain heritage that Taylor believes so many residents can relate to.

Preserving culture is a year-round duty for Chestnut Creek Heritage Chapel and its board members.

According to Taylor, the Fall focuses on musical aspects, while the concentration in the Spring is more on other forms of art and literature.

“I’ve been a fan of his for a long time,” Taylor said. “Since my friend introduced me to his music some years ago, I just fell in love with it.”

Bowers currently lives in Seattle and is set to finish up his latest tour with a show in Rome, Ga. the night before his performance in Chilton County.

“We were fortunate to schedule him,” Taylor said. “Everything worked out perfectly. We just want everybody to come out and enjoy, because this is not your typical event.”

Tickets for the concert are $20 and can be purchased at the door. Children 12 years old and under will be admitted free with a paid adult.

Fall refreshments and food will also be served to those in attendance and included in the ticket price.
